DVD Review
House of Usher has been released on DVD as part of MGM's Midnite Movies collection. The packaging lists the film's title as Fall of the House of Usher, but the print contains the title as it actually appears everywhere else. The movie itself is presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and has been enhanced for 16x9 televisions. Picture quality is stunning and is keeping with some of the other fantastic transfers in MGM's vast library.
Extras on the disc include a trailer for the film and an interesting commentary track by director Roger Corman. Like his track for X - The Man with the X-Ray Eyes, Corman has a lot to say about the making of the film while also elaborating on his working relationship with Price. Considering the short running time of the film, one would expect that Corman could fill it, but there are a few noticeable gaps in the track scattered about. Minor complaints, though, to have another great commentary track featuring one of the most prolific B-movie filmmakers of our time.
